Island 98.5 and Nadine, The Suburban Psychic

Every Thursday morning at 7am, I tune in to Island 98.5 to listen to their weekly psychic hour show and this morning was no different. The draw for me is a fascination with the paranormal. The draw for the Wake Up Crew and for a lot of the callers is romantic drama. “Will my boyfriend and I ever get married?” “Is my husband cheating on me?” “My wife and I are getting divorced, will we get back together?”

Admittedly, I laugh out loud along with the Wake Up Crew  (who incidentally consist of 3 men) as they more than often, rather harshly, point out the obvious and the ridiculous aspect of romantic love. “Who are YOU to expect someone else to change,” they ask. Or “Lady, I’ve only known you for a few seconds and I already can’t stand you.” Brutal. But funny, none-the-less.

The focal point for me though, is the ability of the psychic and the implications of what they do. Nadine, The Suburban Psychic, who is regularly on the show, knows specific things about total strangers by way of some sort of psychic connection. Even the Wake up crew, who gives literal meaning to the show’s preface, “For entertainment purposes only”, are genuinely surprised and a little spooked as they conclude that ‘Nadine is for real’.

Every time the caller confirms the accuracy of a psychic reading, I wonder, “How do psychics do that?” and I conclude without understanding that there is a mysterious unseen consciousness that surrounds and connects us  all. This consciousness collects all of our thoughts and some of us can readily tap into it.

Amidst the chores of everyday living such a remarkable phenomenon is easily lost. I can’t see this consciousness and it doesn’t help me get the laundry done. And so every week, I tune in to get a little hit of the supernatural (and a few burst-out-laughs, too. I mean, ladies if you have to ask whether he is in to you or not, you don’t need a psychic to answer your own question.)

It’s a weekly comfort to be reminded that this intangible, unseen phenomenon does indeed exist and not only that, it extends beyond earth. Nadine, specializes in ‘talking’ to loved ones who have passed from this dimension. People call and ask about their dearly departed and Nadine can say how the person died and whether they were upset about the funeral arrangements!

As a side note, Nadine says that 2012 will not be the end of the world. [2013 update: the world is still here and Nadine was right.]

A lot of people call in and ask their questions, believing they will receive legitimate answers about their personal lives from a complete stranger. It’s all perfectly acceptable and normal and even taken for granted.

Being so enmeshed in their own dramas, no one pauses enough to ask about the implications of it all. We care mostly about running around finding out whether we will find love ,or whether we are expecting a baby boy or baby girl, or whether will get that job we just interviewed for, or whether moving to the mainland is a good move for us or not. What most of us miss is we are all connected by something much more profound than romantic love or other drama in our individual lives. We are connected by a mysterious web, an unseen fabric of energy that knows every action and intent of every human on earth and even in heaven.

Hard to believe? Tune in to the show or call and ask a question (for free, but you will be ridiculed), Thursday mornings, 7am Pacific standard time.

    • Hi!
Thank you for your kind words. Publishing personal thoughts always feels a bit vulnerable. I do it only for the thought that someone might actually get some use out of it. So your words are very appreciated.

      Best to you.

  3. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into sarting my own weblog and
was curious what all is required to get set up?I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny?
I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100% certain. Any recommendations or
advice would bbe greatly appreciated. Many thanks

    • Hi-
I started blogging about two years ago. Hosts like WordPress.com (my personal favorite) and Bloggers.com make it easy to start blogging right away for no cost. Premuim upgrades are of course available for a cost, but unnecessary to start. Good luck and happy blogging!

    • Hi-
Thank you for the compliments. However, I have to give due credit to WordPress.com for providing great templates and customizing options. All I have to do is have a little bit of taste and organization sense.

      Best,
      Naia

  5. Wonderful blog! I found it while searching on Yahoo News.
Do you have any suggestions on how to get listed in Yahoo News?
I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there!
    Cheers

    • Hi Jane-
Thanks for your comment. The good news is I did not try very hard to get listed in Yahoo News, which I only know about because of your comment. My goal in writing the blog post was to share something of profound interest to me. That blog post has high visitorship particularly every week right after the radio show. So the post gets a lot of “free” press. Cheers and good luck!
